Jacky Lansley in Conversation with Julyen Hamilton

2012 Crossing Borders Talks

Julyen Hamilton in conversation with Jacky Lansley, choreographer and performance artist who shared many of the formative contexts in the development of New Dance practice in the UK. Julyen is one of Europe's foremost improvisors and has been teaching, performing and making work for 35 years. He is a key figure in the development of New Dance. This conversation explored some of the practices and evolution within Julyen’s work and his current thinking as a choreographer and teacher.

2012 Crossing Borders was curated by Frank Bockand and invited a series of UK and international practitioners whose work understands movement and embodiment through a variety of different forms. Art practice, neuroscience, somatics and curation underpin the many contexts where such explorations take place. Crossing Borders was organised in collaboration with the Graduate School of London Contemporary Dance School and Dance Umbrella. The series offers fresh vantage points on artistic practice and environment, and feeds into current debates on the UK dance ecology.
